ST. LOUIS > Man is held in shooting * A suspect in a shooting that happened west of downtown about 7:45 p.m. Tuesday was captured by restaurant workers about four blocks away, police said. The man, 19, was nabbed in the 2000 block of Market Street. The male victim, 17, was in stable condition at a hospital with a wound in the abdomen.

Police said trouble began at the Civic Center MetroLink station, just off 14th and Spruce streets, where a woman said she and the suspect got into an argument and she threatened him with pepper spray. She said he pulled a gun as he ran west on Clark and she heard a shot but did not see anyone hit.

The victim was found at 18th and Clark, near Union Station. A witness told police he had argued with the suspect. Police heading west on Market followed the running suspect, who was apprehended by two employees of a nearby restaurant. Police said they recovered a gun. No charges had been filed by late Wednesday.

ST. LOUIS > Club fire accidental * A fire at Attitudes Nightclub in The Grove district about 8:53 p.m. Tuesday was caused by faulty wiring, fire Capt. Gregg Favre said. Lightning was initially suspected but later ruled out. The club was closed at the time; nobody was hurt.

The blaze was contained to the attic, Favre said. The building, at 4100 Manchester Avenue, sustained moderate damage.

COLUMBIA, ILL. > Mother faces kidnapping charges * A woman from St. Francois County is facing two counts of child abduction after she allegedly kidnapped her two children in Columbia, Ill.

Columbia police say Amy Lynn Richey, 34, of the 9900 block of Valles Mines Road, took her daughter, 5, and son, 10, on Friday while the children's father was at a gas station on North Main Street.

The father had a court order showing that the mother had lost parental rights to the children last year, police said.

Authorities issued an alert about the abduction, and Richey and the children were later found in Valles Mines, an unincorporated area near the border of Jefferson and St. Francois counties.

Bail has been set at $25,000 for Richey on the two counts of child abduction. Police were searching for her Wednesday evening. …
