Busch Stadium Now Features Walk-Through Metal Detectors at Every Entrance

Article excerpt

ST. LOUIS * Entering Busch Stadium for Cardinals games this season will feel a little like passing through airport security.

But after fans endure that bit of inconvenience, they will find extra chances to indulge themselves at expanded, all-inclusive suites and with new menus featuring hearty, if not heart-healthy, comfort foods.

The team has installed walk-through metal detectors at every gate, bringing the club in line with Major League Baseball's new dictum that each fan be scanned before entering .

The league took the action after conferring with the Department of Homeland Security.

For years, the club has used hand-held wands to scan a random sample of fans.

His wife, Kristie Gottlob, 44, said she was surprised that such measures were not in place for events of every kind at every stadium.

"We went to a (Carolina) Panthers (pro football) game at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte last season and it upset me a little bit that people were not being scanned," she said.

Karri and Tobias Thomason, of Peoria, Ill., were sipping beer at Ballpark Village across from the stadium. …
