Mustard Seed Sows a New Season

A one-woman play, "The Amish Project," will open the 2015-16 season at Mustard Seed, a theater company dedicated to work that explores issues of faith and social justice.

Written by Jessica Dickey, "The Amish Project" is a fictional exploration of the 2006 Nickel Mines schoolhouse shooting in an Amish community and the extraordinary outpouring of compassion and forgiveness that followed. It will run Aug. 28-Sept. 13 and will be directed by Deanna Jent, founder and artistic director of Mustard Seed.

"All Is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914" will run Nov. 27-Dec. 20, its third annual Mustard Seed production. Audiences have crowded in for this production, based on real events. On the first Christmas Eve of World War I, many soldiers on both sides of the Western Front lay down their weapons and marked the holiday together. Jent again directs.

Gary Wayne Barker, a member of Mustard Seed's artistic advisory board, will direct the next production, "Dancing at Lughnasa" by Brian Friel. …
