'Lovefest' for White in Yearly Review

Sarasota County schools Superintendent Lori White won kudos from her bosses as the district released her annual performance evaluation Wednesday.

The School Board members praised White for cutting the district's budget without affecting students in the classroom and for being engaged with the community.

"You may call it a lovefest," said board Chairwoman Jane Goodwin during meeting Tuesday. "But I have such respect for Lori White."

Goodwin called White "the most respected public official in the county" and "a humble servant who was always there but not looking to upstage anyone."

Each June, the School Board evaluates White, although the reviews are not tied to her salary, said district spokesman Gary Leatherman.

White, 59, is paid $179,430 annually and has led the district since 2008.

She has said she plans to retire in 2017.

For the rest of the superintendent's tenure, board member Caroline Zucker noted she wanted the district to offer more counseling services for students if money is available, she wrote in her evaluation. …
