Local Gas Prices Fall to $2.97 a Gallon

Gas prices continued their declines during the weekend in the Bradenton-Sarasota-Venice market, coming in Monday at an average of $2.97 for a gallon of regular unleaded.

That was down from $2.99 on Friday, a day after the region's pricing slid beneath the $3 mark for the first time in four years, AAA data show.

Regular unleaded is now 7 cents below its pricing level a week ago and 37 cents from where it was a month ago. In November 2013 at this time the price was averaging $3.23 per gallon in the Bradenton- Sarasota-Venice market.

Statewide, the average was $2.96 on Monday, down like amounts, while the national average slid below $3 on Saturday for the first time since Dec. 22, 2010.

AAA said there is room for prices to fall another 5 to 15 cents by the end of the year. All things being equal, the best-case scenario would thus put the average in Bradenton-Sarasota-Venice at $2.82 in that time frame.
