Downtown Sarasota Gets New Visitor Center

SARASOTA

Visit Sarasota, the county's tourism agency, will open a new visitors center in downtown Sarasota today.

At 14 N. Lemon Ave. in Pineapple Square, the center will be an information hub for visitors who want to learn more about Sarasota and nearby destinations. The tourism agency closed an office at 701 N. Tamiami Trail in the historic Chidsey Library Building this year.

"I think being closer to downtown's central core will better position us to interact with visitors who walk around Main Street and dine around there," said Stephanie Grosskreutz, managing director with Visit Sarasota. "With several new hotels coming online in the downtown area, we'll be walking distance for those guests who want to know more about what to see and do during their stay."

The new visitor center, which is across the street from Mattison's City Grille, is the second the tourism bureau has opened this year, after establishing an information desk in the new Mall at University Town Center. …
