Mall's Library Branch Moving Back to Its Home

The Gulf Gate Public Library will close its temporary site inside the Westfield Sarasota Square Mall for good on Jan. 3.

The library is preparing to open a new site at 7112 Curtiss Ave., Sarasota, early next year.

The Sarasota Square site will close a few weeks before the new library branch opens so staff can move materials and prepare the new, two-story 25,920-square-foot building to open.

The Gulf Gate Public Library will celebrate a grand opening at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 24.

The library moved to Sarasota Square in February 2013.

The new building is replacing the previous library at the same site on Curtiss Avenue.

New amenities include a bigger meeting room, a large teen center, two reading gardens and a children's storytime room.

Sarasota Square gets Fizz

Rocket Fizz, a store that sells retro gifts and candies, is the latest retailer to open in Sarasota Square Mall.
