NEGLECT CHARGES: Couple arrested after deputies respond to domestic call

VENICE -- Deputies arrested a Venice couple Tuesday morning after they found the family's twin toddler daughters living in squalor, the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office reported.

Wesley Benoit, 35, and Elizabeth Davis, 32, each were charged with two felony counts of child neglect. Their 2-year-old twins were taken into the custody of the Florida Department of Children and Families.

Deputies were called to Davis and Benoit's home on Briarwood Road shortly before 2:30 a.m., according to an arrest report.

Davis told deputies that Benoit was a danger to both her and the children, and that he had threatened to kill her.

She told deputies that Benoit had injured her before, and that he had crystal methamphetamine and paraphernalia in a room connected to the house's porch.

While speaking with Davis, deputies asked about a noticeable stench of feces, urine and garbage in the home. When they searched the house they found it covered in filth. …
