From a free concert in the park to a pub crawl to headliners with serious chops, the Sarasota Jazz Festival manages to offer, yes, just about something for everyone. The Jazz Club of Sarasota's signature annual event, now in its 35th year, starts Sunday with a free performance by rock star violinist Doug Cameron and his quartet at Phillippi Estate Park. The festival continues through March 7 with a closing performance by local and national treasure Dick Hyman. "Queen of the Keys" concert pianist Lillette Jenkins-Wisner, she recently turned 91, will be awarded this year's Satchmo Award for her outstanding contributions to jazz at the Hyman concert.

Jazz in the Park concert

at Phillippi Estate Park

Sarasota Jazz Festival kicks off with an afternoon of jazz at Phillippi Estate Park with the Doug Cameron Quartet, plus performances by the Pine View Jazz Quartet and the Riverview High School Jazz Ensemble. A veteran of the Los Angeles studio scene, Cameron can be heard on records by the likes of Tom Petty, George Benson and Dionne Warwick. Bring a blanket or chair; no coolers.

John Lamb and June Garber with the Sarasota Jazz Project Big Band

Former Duke Ellington bassist John Lamb and Canadian vocalist June Garber join the Sarasota Jazz Project Big Band for an evening of swinging big band jazz.
