Quantum Theatre Celebrates 25 Years

Quantum Theatre's Karla Boos unveiled plans for her company's 25th anniversary season by inviting a few dozen of her close friends and supporters of experimental theater to the magnificent Union Trust Building on Grant Street, Downtown. On the 10th floor of the atrium, a stained-glass and marble wonder, she spoke and then led guests from drinks and light eats to something unusual for a company known for site-specific productions - a theater.

"It feels funny to be talking to you from a stage," she said, noting that it was a little too perfect and cozy for Quantum. When Quantum unveils the world premiere opera "The Winter's Tale" there, the space will not be used in the traditional way. She shared the microphone with board member Jack Brice and his wife, Kate Freed, co-chairs of the annual Q-Ball. Ms. Freed read a note from co- chairs Carole King and Chip Burke, who had to leave the event early.

Ms. Boos presented a surprise true to Quantum's experimental history: an hourlong American premiere by Physical Theatre's Olga Kosterina. …
