Achievers under 40 Profile: Jonathan Fowler

Automobiles and the arts might not seem like a natural combination, but don't say that to Jonathan Fowler. This member of one of the state's most well-known automobile families, in just a few short years, spearheaded the creation of Oklahoma's top-selling Volkswagen dealership, plus established one of the state's fastest- growing music festivals.

Fowler joined the family business at a young age. "After starting out sweeping and stocking parts, I slowly worked through the positions in a dealership and fell in love with the business after leaving the University of Oklahoma in 2006," he said. "My favorite part of my job is getting to interact with people every day."

In 2010, he opened Fowler Volkswagen in Norman. To do so, he beat out 15 other companies that competed to become Volkswagen's new dealer in the state. The store quickly became the top-performing dealership in Oklahoma, accounting for more than 50 percent of the state's market share, and Fowler was named Fowler Holding Co.'s vice president of operations in 2013.

In addition to his love for cars, an equal love of music led Fowler to play a lead role in creating the Norman Music Festival, an indie festival that now attracts 50,000 people every year. He also is active in the Norman Arts Council and various other civic arts groups and serves on the board of the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History. …
