New Firearms Coating a Game Changer

Article excerpt

High-performance firearms coatings have become the latest must- have accessory for serious defensive arms.

Their benefits far and away eclipse traditional bluing and parkerizing, the way smokeless replaced black powder.

So, when Felex Yukhtman, owner of Bradenton's Gun Point, said he was about to offer a new coating that would improve reliability, protect against wear, rust and moisture, make cleaning easier and extend the overall life of a weapon, I placed my Springfield XD into his "Mad Russian" hands.

Felex is known nationally for his high-end machine guns, custom AKs and ARs, and for being a really nice and innovative gun guy.

He has just started a business relationship with the Stuart- based WMD Guns, one of the first and, in my humble opinion, best sources for high-performance firearms coatings.

Their patented NiB-X Nickel Boron product is the firm's flagship.

Holden Kriss, business development manager for WMD Guns, was at Felex's shop last week.

He had driven across the state to deliver the freshly-coated slide and barrel from my XD, along with several AR uppers, lowers, and both 5.56mm and 9mm bolt carrier groups. He also brought an integrally-suppressed Ruger .22 pistol, which had been entirely coated with the NiB-X product.

The Ruger will be offered exclusively by Gun Point, and it's a true all-weather pistol, which can even operate dry. Its MSRP has yet to be determined.

WMD Guns is currently nickel-boron coating about 60-70 percent of guns and parts destined for the high-end AR market, Holden told me. The names of the manufacturers are proprietary, but capturing that amount of the industry's fastest growing market is a staggering accomplishment.

He and Felex were clearly excited about their new collaboration.

"We can put this on firearms, BCGs, suppressors, knives -- there's such a vast field of applications," Felex said. …
