Health Chiefs Warn Parents over 'Paracetamol Challenge' ; Pharmacists Urged to Be Vigilant after Social Media Craze of Youngsters Taking Painkillers

EALTH chiefs in Greater Manchester have issued an Hurgent warning to parents over the potentially-lethal 'paracetamol challenge' craze.

The message to mums and dads comes amid growing concern over the viral stunt, which has been condemned by doctors and health experts.

Pharmacies are being warned to be vigilant against youngsters getting their hands on over-thecounter painkillers.

And a group representing chemists and pharmacies has also urged families to ensure their children know the risks and to remain aware.

David Walsh, from the Oldham, Tameside and Glossop Local Pharmaceutical Committee, said: "Although purchases through pharmacies will attract this extra level of vigilance, it is perfectly possible for youngsters to purchase the product in non- pharmacy outlets where this level of scrutiny is absent.

"Parents should be wary of any unexplained paracetamol products in their children's possession."

The social media craze has been spread through Facebook and Twitter, with parents and health professionals branding it 'stupid and dangerous'. …
