mIDDLETON band The Courteeners kicked off a huge three days of music at Heaton Park with an incredible homecoming gig.

The four-piece had the Manchester park rocking as 20,000 fans enjoyed their first home town performance in two years. As the sun set on the Not Nineteen Forever rockers' local park, the enthralled sell-out crowd sang along to every song.

The gig was the perfect start to a massive weekend of music at the venue, with the Parklife festival taking place today and tomorrow.

And the festival vibe arrived early as The Courteeners played arguably the biggest - and best - gig of their lives.

After tickets sold out for the show in just 40 minutes, bandmates Liam Fray, Michael Campbell, Daniel 'Conan' Moores and Mark Joseph Cuppello thought of this as their 'Spike Island' - the site of Stone Roses' famous outdoor concert 25 years ago. They had a lot to live up to but the hype and build up were justified.

As band walked out on stage, in the park where they played pitch and putt and wooed their first girlfriends, it was clear it was going to be a special night. …
