A TEENAGER addicted to legal highs has told the M.E.N. just how terrifying the substances can be - and how he ended up stealing to fund his habit.

Brian Riley, 19, started smoking synthetic cannabis about two years ago. At the time he had been taking Class As in the wake of his father's death, but one day a friend offered him something else.

"He said it's this legal high. You're not supposed to smoke it, but people do. I had a couple of drags of it and it basically cleared my mind and took me off everything else," he said.

"It did sort my life out.

But in a different way it messed it up just as badly."

Before long, Brian stole to pay for the drugs - which he said are easily bought on the streets of Stockport for about Pounds 5 a gram.

"I got really addicted to it and started robbing from my own mum and my family," he said. …
