Four Topekans involved in one-vehicle accident

Four people -- including three children under the age of 5 -- involved in a serious one-vehicle injury accident Tuesday afternoon two miles west of Lawrence are from Topeka, and one is still in critical condition, an official with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said.

Lt. Steve Lewis said authorities responded to a the crash at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of US-40 highway. He said the vehicle left the roadway, rolled several times and went through a barbed-wire fence.

Ebony Boykins, 24, of Topeka, was ejected from the vehicle, Lewis said, adding she was taken by air ambulance to The University of Kansas Hospital with critical injuries. As of Wednesday morning, she was listed in critical but stable condition.

Another occupant, Marcus Love, 25, also was ejected. Love sustained serious injuries and was transported to Stormont-Vail Health Center. A Wednesday morning update listed him in fair condition. It wasn't immediately known where Love was from.

Police say car wash thefts possibly related

At least four Topeka car washes have been targeted by thieves in recent weeks.

Topeka police offense reports show Squeaky's Car Wash, 6101 S.W. 29th; Gage Center Car Wash, 1221 S.W. Seabrook Ave.; 37th Street Car Wash, 515 S.E. 37th; and Hill Car Wash, 3620 S.E. 30th Terr., have been victims of criminal damage and theft.

Heaven said a detective is looking into whether the crimes may be related.

Domestic disturbance call leads to odor

Authorities found only a broken container of bug spray but no other hazardous chemicals Tuesday night after responding to a North Topeka home where a domestic disturbance had been reported.
