I'm happy that a dialogue is happening regarding motorcycle noise. After reading Paul W. Watt's letter ("Many Noise Pollutants," June 7), I need to respond. I agree that there are many sources of noise. It's called living in the city. Sirens, Medevac flights landing, buses ... you get the picture. But the point Mr. Watt misses is that these noises are the result of people doing something, not creating noise for the sake of making noise.

I've had a motorcycle since I was 16 (I'm now 67); I admit I removed the baffles once - when I was 16 and didn't know better. My owner's manual states that it's a federal offense to tamper with any part of the exhaust system. It's illegal with the state, too. It's mobile noise pollution.

So why is there no enforcement? An educated, professional friend of mine was taking her baby for a ride in a stroller. …
