Pittsburgh Airport Eyes Direct Flights to Memphis

Local travelers soon could be going back to Memphis, nonstop no less.

Pittsburgh International Airport officials are in talks with OneJet about starting direct service to the Tennessee blues and Elvis mecca.

"There are a lot of opportunities for small- and medium-size markets to be served with a carrier like OneJet so that passengers don't have to connect, and Memphis is one of them," said Christina Cassotis, CEO of the Allegheny County Airport Authority, which operates Pittsburgh International.

OneJet announced last week that it would be starting service between its base in Indianapolis and Memphis on June 22. The new business-oriented regional airline made its debut in April with service between Indianapolis and Milwaukee.

Last month, it arrived in Pittsburgh with service to both Indianapolis and Milwaukee.

Jon Austin, a OneJet spokesman, would not say whether the airline was considering adding a flight to Memphis from Pittsburgh. "I like to keep a little bit of mystery about such things," he said. …
