WIN or lose, one can only admire the tenacity of Coun Karen Garrido and RAID in trying to prevent Peel from building 600 houses on green fields in Salford (M.E.N. June 9).

It is obvious that Peel are rather peeved at RAID's insistence that this land should quite rightly remain green. It would be very sad if the woods and meadows were to be covered in bricks and concrete. Is Peel really concerned that there aren't enough houses, or is it that they just don't want to lose this fight? If the land is protected for good reason by the City's UDP, why does Peel believe they have a right to go against this? They describe the decision as irrational but Peel are the ones being irrational.

Everyone is aware that more houses are needed but green fields are not the place to build them.

There are many brown field sites in and around Salford and Manchester and those are the sites which should be being used first. Peel has the money and resources to improve these brown field sites with the housing they so desperately want to build, and there would probably be little or no opposition, yet they seem to delight in causing everyone aggravation and upset. …
