DANNY Morton admits he jumped at the chance to test himself at Stockport County.

The new Hatters defender spent last season two levels below County, skippering Clitheroe to a mid-table finish in the Evo-Stik North.

Step one side FC Halifax had shown an interest in the 22-year- old right-back but new Stockport boss Neil Young persuaded Morton to come to Edgeley Park.

However, the youngster admits it was far from a hard-sell to get Morton on board.

"I had quite a good year at Clitheroe last season and Halifax had sent scouts to watch me," he revealed. "I was invited there for pre- season but there were no promises on the back of it.

"However, Neil had watched me a few times last season as well and invited me to have a chat with County.

"It was a bit of a no-brainer really when you look at the size of the club. Once Neil said he was interested then my mind was made up. …
