Journal Record to Present Beacon Awards July 16

Article excerpt

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Journal Record will honor more than two dozen businesses and organizations for their contributions to the nonprofit community at its eighth-annual Beacon Awards event on July 16 at the Skirvin Hilton Hotel in Oklahoma City.

From feeding the homeless and supporting worthy causes such as Alzheimer's and heart disease to flying wounded veterans to medical appointments across the nation for free, this year's group of honorees continues Oklahoma's tradition of giving back to the communities that support them.

The City of Muskogee Foundation and Fit First Responders will also receive special recognition at the event in the nonprofits helping nonprofits category. These nonprofits exist solely to contribute support to another nonprofit. In addition, 24 other businesses and organizations will receive Beacon Awards for their contributions to the nonprofit community at the event. Organizations will be recognized in large, medium and small divisions for their contributions to the nonprofit community in two categories - charitable influence and philanthropic impact.

"Giving back is aptly demonstrated by many Oklahoma companies; they donate generously of their money and time to a wide variety of nonprofits," said Joni Brooks, president and publisher of The Journal Record. "The Journal Record proudly features some of these companies and the nonprofits they work with through The Beacon Awards. We congratulate the companies and their leadership for speaking loudly through their actions, making a difference for worthy organizations and showing all of us a commitment that goes far beyond profits. Your nomination for a Beacon Award is an acknowledgement of and a thank-you for the support you show to those in need around the state."

All of the honorees will be featured in the Beacon Awards magazine and recognized at the event, where overall winners will also be announced. A reception begins at 6 p.m., with dinner following at 7 p.m. Each of the Beacon Award honorees will receive an award. The overall winners in each category will receive a donation for the nonprofit they support. …
