Ikea to open Sept. 30 * Ikea will open its St. Louis store at 9 a.m. on Sept. 30, the Swedish furniture retailer announced Tuesday. The retailer, expecting crowds, said customers can start lining up at the store on Sept. 28, two days before the doors open that Wednesday. Ikea typically has product giveaways for the first person in line to enter on opening day, which draws big crowds. When the Kansas store opened, those who lined up two days in advance were given free sofas. More information about grand opening events and promotions can be found at ikea-usa.com/stlouis. The store will hire about 300 new workers by the opening, and the retailer said those interested can still go online at ikea-usa.com or submit applications at St. Louis Agency on Training and Employment office at 1520 Market Street, 3rd Floor.

The New York attorney general's office and the Federal Communications Commission also wrote letters to San Jose, Calif.-based PayPal expressing concern. In a statement Tuesday, PayPal apologized and said it had added new language clarifying that it would only use pre-recorded calls or texts when helping customers detect and investigate fraud, provide notice regarding account activity or collect debts owed to PayPal. "We will not use autodialed or prerecorded calls or texts to contact our customers for marketing purposes without prior express written consent," said Louise Pentland, a senior vice president of PayPal, said in the blog statement.
