Sky-High Thrills as Airport Hosts Europe's Biggest Aviation Fair

MORE than 15,000 plane fans are expected to descend on Manchester Airport this weekend for Europe's biggest aviation fair.

The planespotters' paradise at the Runway Visitor Park is this year dedicated to Second World War aviation.

Home to the retired Concorde, the hangar will be transformed into the giant fair ground Now in its seventh year, the Manchester Airport Aviation and Transport Fair attracts visitors from as far afield as Holland, Germany, America and the Middle East.

It is also a tribute to trains and motor vehicles and is organised by members of The Aviation Society.

The central theme this year will be 'Ringway in Wartime' commemorating the role of the former RAF Ringway in World War Two, before it became Manchester Airport.

From 1939 until 1946, the airfield hosted the No 1 Parachute Regiment - formed under instruction from Winston Churchill in 1940.

More than 400,000 parachute descents were made over the airfield and nearby Tatton Park during the war. …
