Musing at the mid-week:

- Do not lie. You have never felt so juiced over All-Star introductions as you were Tuesday.

- Well, assuming you are a Royals fan, and watched as four starters were introduced among 13 representatives from Kansas City.

- Actually it was three KC starters, but we remember you, too, Alex Gordon.

- My guess is the Royals will never have a regular in the game like George Brett.

- In part because of turnover in personnel. In part because few in the game will ever be as good as Brett.

- MLB execs like to point out that home-field advantage in the World Series is not as profound as in championships contested in other pro sports.

- Seems like a weak defense for the prize that goes to the league that wins the All-Star Game.

- If it helps stir the players' attention, inspires the manager to win with fewer substitutions and provides fans a talking point, then OK.

- The reward just seems goofy when tied to the outcome of an exhibition game.

- Those MLB execs can, however, point to last year's World Series when making their point.

- The Royals did not prevail at home in Game 7.

- Too bad the rule did not stipulate that Madison Bumgarner pitch for the AL champions.

- A regular reader agreed with me that Frank Mason was a beast for K-USA in the World University Games.

- Yet he could not help but notice that the point guard's name makes him sound like an insurance agent more than a baller.

- Makes me wonder what Glen Mason is up to.

- While the clock used for the Home Run Derby was wonderful, do not expect a 20-second timer on pitches just yet for major-league games.

- It could happen. The commissioner likes the concept.

- More data is needed. And not so much negative feedback from minor-league players regarding timing implemented at those levels.

- Best sign at the HR Derby: "Downtown goes Frazier. …
