Devs, Gelinas OK Two-Year Contract

NEWARK - The Devils have already avoided one of their two scheduled salary arbitration hearings and are working on avoiding the other.

Restricted free agent defenseman Eric Gelinas' July 21 hearing is no longer necessary after he agreed Tuesday to a two-year contract worth $3.15 million.

Gelinas, 24, will make $1.5 million in 2015-16 and $1.65 million in 2016-17 for a salary cap hit of $1.575 million. He was coming off a one-year deal for $900,000.

"They were talking for a while, so I was just waiting for my agent to give me some news and they told me today that they agreed on the terms," Gelinas said Tuesday.

"Obviously, I'm more comfortable with a two-year deal. It's a nice little bridge deal. I'm really happy to have agreed before arbitration also."

The Devils have one more salary arbitration hearing scheduled for July 29 with restricted free agent defenseman Adam Larsson. General manager Ray Shero has been in contract talks with Larsson's agent, J.P. Barry, since late last week. …
