Cornell Vows to Challenge for Oldham's Keeper Jersey ; League One

NEW Oldham Athletic goalkeeper David Cornell insists he hasn't joined the club just to sit on the bench.

The 24-year-old signed a one-year-deal with Latics last week after he was released by Premier League side Swansea City earlier this summer.

Youngster Joel Coleman made the keeper's jersey his own at the back end of last season, but Cornell is planning on forcing his way into the starting line-up.

"Joel is a good lad and a good goalkeeper but over the next couple of weeks I'm sure we'll be battling it out for the number one spot," he said.

"I knew it was a great opportunity to come here so I'm excited to get going and I've had a good time training with the squad so far.

"It seems there is a great group of lads here. I've worked closely with the goalkeeping coach, Anthony White, and the manager, Darren Kelly, over the past couple of weeks and it's gone really well. …
