Donald Trump Speaks for Many and Can't Be Bought

Donald Trump is not my candidate. If voting in the primaries as an independent were allowed, I, too, would register as unaffiliated just as letter writer Oren Spiegler has. However, Mr. Spiegler ("The GOP's Trump," July 13) is underestimating the draw of Donald Trump for those who are just plain tired of the typical political rhetoric of Republican/Democratic/Socialist candidates.

Mr. Trump has tapped into the anger and frustration of Americans who have worked hard to provide for their families and mind their own business and yet are characterized as racists and told they lack compassion. These families are the soul of America. They feel used by a government that is supposed to protect them.

Most candidates speak under the direction of wordsmiths hired to keep their comments from becoming fodder for the press. …
