Baseball Notes: All-Star Game Draws Worst TV Rating in Its History

Worst rating for All-Star Game

Fox's telecast Tuesday of baseball's All-Star Game received the lowest television rating the event ever has drawn. The American League's 6-3 win over the National League in Cincinnati was seen in just 6.6 percent of U.S. homes with a TV, Nielsen said. The previous low was a 6.8, in 2012. Fox said the telecast averaged 10.9 million viewers down from 11.3 million for last year's game.

Still, baseball's contest is the top-rated of the four major North American pro sports leagues' All-Star games. Tuesday's contest did much better in St. Louis than it did nationally. KTVI (Channel 2) drew an 17.9 rating, third in the country.

Detwiler won't take demotion * As expected, pitcher Ross Detwiler rejected the Texas Rangers' offer of an outright assignment to the minor leagues, club officials said. Detwiler, who went to Holt High School in Wentzville, will become a free agent if he clears released waivers. That is considered a formality. …
