Fans Were Key to Deal for Slovak Star Gron ; Ice Hockey

NEW Manchester Phoenix singing Stanislav Gron says the famous reputation of the club's supporters convinced him to join the Premier League side.

The 36-year-old arrived at Phoenix earlier this week, becoming Tony Hand's latest signing as he looks to rebuild his squad.

Gron joins a team that will be playing out of Deeside Ice Rink in North Wales next year while plans for a new 3,000 seater arena in Manchester city centre continue to be discussed.

The forward spent last season playing in front of relatively small crowds in Italy, and he is relishing the opportunity to be competing for some passionate fans.

"When I spoke to Tony about coming to the Phoenix, one of the first things he mentioned was the supporters," he said.

"They are the reason why this club exists and I can't wait to see them in full voice.

"I am really looking forward to playing in front of them and helping the guys challenge for trophies. …
