Switchfoot Singer Releases Special Music Series

Article excerpt

Switchfoot singer Jon Foreman understands what the music-buying public wants from their favorite acts: hit songs they can download rather than fully realized albums.

But that didn't deter Foreman from embarking on one of music's most ambitious projects in a while, a four-EP concept project titled "The Wonderlands," rolling out throughout this year.

Each EP takes fans on a musical journey through each part of the day "Sunlight," "Shadows," "Darkness" and "Dawn" which for the casual listener is probably too much to even think about.

"It's a horrible idea for marketing, but I didn't do it for marketing purposes," Foreman says. "Maybe it's more for me. That honesty is the selling point tell the truth. People who are excited about a bold new form of creativity and expression will find it. People who want singles will find that, too. But this ain't that."

Foreman says he considers music a playground.

"It's an alternative universe that looks at our own with a fresh perspective," he says. "I wanted to capture that idea where you can create a place where people could go and maybe find themselves there."

He says "The Wonderlands" is a dream come true. "Music has been my companion throughout the day, documenting my life, providing clarity. I thought, what if I can create a day with music, 24 songs for 24 hours that could travel with me. That's where the concept came from."

The first EP, "Sunlight," was released in May with the single "Caroline."

"Shadows" was released in July.

Foreman is celebrating the project by performing 24 shows in 24 hours on Oct. 24.

"My goal is to push the concept to the next level," he says. "It's going to be fun. I'll be playing at bar mitzvahs, at weddings, at the beach."

And that's not a stretch for him.

"Usually after shows, if I have music left in me, I'll go play in the parking lot or in a coffee shop or bar," he says. …
