Giles Delighted as Finn Blasts Back for England

LANCASHIRE head coach Ashley Giles welcomed Steven Finn's return to prime Test form - 18 months after declaring the paceman was "not selectable" for his country.

Finn took five wickets in the third Ashes Test at Edgbaston, to put England on the verge of victory and taking a 2-1 lead against Australia.

Former England limited-overs coach Giles was given flak on social media for his January 2014 verdict on the Middlesex man.

Yet there were few as pleased as Giles to see Finn ripping through the Australian batting line-up.

And he stressed the decision to send Finn home from the last Ashes tour Down Under was taken with the bowler's best interests in mind.

"It's not often England have such a good day and an ex-player gets such a hammering," Giles said.

"I'm over the moon for Finny for the way he's come back and the way he's bowled."

Looking back to England's dismal 2013/14 winter tour, Giles said: "I was excited about picking up Steven because he was a major part of our one-day team and our T20 team, only to be told he was in a pretty bad place and in fact he hadn't even bowled at batsmen for a couple of weeks, he'd been that bad. …
