Michael Cuddyer (knee) told the St. Lucie (Fla.) News he hopes to play in a rehab game today and rejoin the team for Friday's series opener against the Rays.

Manager Terry Collins will meet with Cuddyer today at the team's complex in Port St. Lucie, but he's still not sure if Cuddyer will be ready.

Cuddyer is eligible to be activated from the disabled list, and when he is, he could see a reduction in playing time due to the arrival of Yoenis Cespedes.

While Cespedes has at times played center field with New York, he also plays left. Juan Lagares also will receive starts in center.

Cuddyer also can play first base, and he hasn't played right field this season, it used to be his primary position.

Collins said Cuddyer may be the designated hitter for one of the games against the Rays, but he doesn't have a specific plan for DH. …
