COLUMBIA, Mo. * College football's "talking season," as South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier calls it, officially ends this week. For the Missouri Tigers, it concludes at 3:45 p.m. Thursday with the first practice of training camp, the start of coach Gary Pinkel's 15th season at Mizzou.

That's when the hot air exhaled during summertime's preseason projections starts to give way to the heat and sweat of preseason camp. Feeling snubbed by the media's preseason poll? The two-time defending SEC East winners can shift their focus to the next month of practices and preseason scrimmages. It worked well for the Tigers the last two years when they were picked sixth and fourth in the the division, respectively. This year, picked third in the East with only two players on the preseason all-conference team center Evan Boehm and linebacker Kentrell Brothers barely made the cut as third- team selections the Tigers should know by now that respect requires one essential ingredient.
