All right, enough already! Everyone talks about speeding up the game of baseball, but once again we had an interminable game delay on Sunday in Cincinnati after a bench-clearing brawl (read shoving- cursing match). Once a player is hit by a pitched ball, the opposing pitcher has to retaliate. I don't believe this is "part of the game" or that pitchers have to "protect their players." These are millionaires who are supposed to be professional. However, they are acting like children. "You hit me, now I have to hit you." Nonsense.

The current warning system used by the umpires has little or no effect and just causes more arguments and delays. A letter to the editor to the PG a few months back suggested giving batters an extra base whenever hit by a pitcher who has reached a certain number of hit batsmen during the season. …
