Sports Digest: St. Louis FC Needs Win Tonight at Home

With just eight United Soccer League games left in its inaugural season and sitting eight points back in the race for the sixth and final Eastern Conference playoff spot, St. Louis FC (5-8-7) finds itself in a must-win spot as it hosts FC Montreal (5-12-3) Saturday at Soccer Park in Fenton. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Montreal, coming off a 3-0 Wednesday win in Louisville, is 4-1-1 in its last six. That streak includes a 5-2 win over visiting STLFC on July 15. The five goals allowed are the most STLFC has allowed in game this season.

STLFC is just 1-5-4 in league games at home this season; its only USL win at Soccer Park this season was a 1-0 defeat of the Wilmington Hammerheads on May 9.Both teams will be without key players because of suspension. STLFC's Charles Renken is out with accumulated yellow cards while Montreal's Charles Joly, who had a hat trick in the team's first meeting, received a two-game suspension after being sent off last weekend. Haskins falls in U16 doubles * Ballwin's Carson Haskins and partner Jackson Allen of Minnesota were knocked out in the doubles semifinals Friday at the United States Tennis Association Boys 16 National Championships in Kalamazoo, Mich. Haskins and Allen fell 3- 6, 6-2, 6-2 to the California duo of Bryce Pereira and Ivan Thamma. A state champion as a freshman in May for Parkway South, Haskins won two consolation draw singles matches earlier Friday before the doubles semifinal.

Police investigate Blackhawks' Kane * Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane is under police investigation over something that may have happened at his home last weekend. Hamburg (N.Y.) Police Chief Gregory Wickett on Friday did not elaborate on the investigation, alluding to an "incident that allegedly occurred" at the player's offseason home in suburban Buffalo. Police are still gathering information and awaiting forensic tests, he said. …
