Pineda Doing Well in Rehab, Eyeing Return

An upbeat Michael Pineda (strained right forearm) is on a faster track toward returning to the Yankees' rotation. On the 15-day disabled list since July 30, Pineda could begin a minor league rehab assignment following Thursday's scheduled bullpen session. And if that goes well, his next appearance could be in the majors.

"So far, everything has gone according to plan," said manager Joe Girardi.

Pineda is due to use all his pitches in Thursday's 35-pitch side session "and you keep your fingers crossed that he feels good after that and you could get him on a rehab."

Pineda said he felt good after Monday's initial 25-pitch bullpen, throwing only fastballs and change-ups at about 75-80 percent.

"I never throw 100 percent in the bullpen. But I can tell when the arm feels good," said Pineda, who is hopeful of a quick return since he was only shut down for seven days. …
