JIMMY Anderson may have played his last Ashes Test in England after he was ruled out of the final Test at The Oval, which starts today.

The Lancashire ace has failed to recover from the side injury which ruled him out of the fourth Test at Trent Bridge, a game which saw England regain the Ashes.

Anderson had been named in the 14-man squad for the fifth Test and was eager to play. But after a curtailed net session, the 33- year-old seamer has been ruled out.

It means England are set the name an unchanged side with Mark Wood - who took the final wicket in Nottingham - retaining his place.

When asked about Anderson, captain Alastair Cook said: "Unfortunately he's not going to make it.

"Jimmy's not fit. As much hard work as he puts in, he's not right.

"He's gutted about it.

He's made really good progress from where he was but this is a week or so too soon. …
