Post-Dispatch Employees Approve 3-Year Contract Extension

Article excerpt

St. Louis Post-Dispatch newsroom and advertising employees represented by the United Media Guild union have approved a three- year contract extension.

Employees voted 71-23 on Tuesday to approve the extension that went into effect immediately and runs through Sept. 30, 2018.

The contract extension includes 2 percent raises annually to the pay scale for three years beginning in December.

The last contract in 2010 took 18 months of negotiations, compared to four days in what was called an 'expedited bargaining' process. In the last contract, employees took a 6 percent pay reduction.

"It's nice to see that the paper recognizes what the men and women employed by the Post-Dispatch do every day," the union's administrative officer Shannon Duffy said of the raises. "This contract while the wage increases aren't large they do get us back to where we were before the pay cuts in 2010."

Sales representatives who are commission only will receive $625 weekly and become "base plus commission" employees. …
