Fayette County Wins Thriller in Season Opener over Winfield

FAYETTE | It all came down to the final 15.7 seconds.

Fayette County senior quarterback Drew Guy found senior Mario Wilson in the right back corner of the end zone for a 5-yard touchdown pass to secure a 26-20 victory over Winfield on Thursday night.

"They were in a little better shape than we are and it showed, but our kids found a way to make a play," Tigers coach Lance Tucker said.

The contest was a back and forth affair from the beginning. Fayette County held a 7-6 lead at the end of the first quarter, and a 14-6 lead at halftime. From there, the teams exchanged touchdowns until the Tigers final drive.

Winfield tied it with 10:27 remaining off of a 9-yard touchdown run by Jordan Hunt.

Guy completed 16 of 23 passes for 187 yards, two interceptions and three touchdowns, and was also the team's leading rusher with 14 carries for 58 yards. Mario Wilson was Fayette County's leading receiver with seven receptions for 54 yards and three touchdowns including the game winner. His brother, Kondarius Wilson, rushed for 47 yards on six carries and a touchdown. …
