Man to Be Arraigned Thursday for Shooting ; Arraigned: Victim Shot Once in Torso

Kelsey Lee Fairchild will be arraigned Thursday on charges in the shooting death in January of Colton Christenson after a sixth criminal charge was added in his case on Monday.

Fairchild, 22, is charged with premeditated first-degree murder in the shooting death of Christenson or alternatively with felony first-degree murder, aggravated robbery and aggravated assault.

Fairchild also is charged with a misdemeanor count of marijuana possession.

On Monday, Shawnee County District Court Judge Mark Braun approved a prosecutor's request to add a felony charge of criminal discharge of a firearm into an occupied vehicle.

Fairchild is being arraigned again on Thursday as a result of adding the criminal discharge offense.

Christenson was shot Jan. 5 in the alley in the 1500 block between S.W. College and Mulvane. The slaying occurred during a botched sale of marijuana to Fairchild, according to witnesses.

Fairchild's two-week trial is to start Oct. 5.

Detective Lance Green, lead investigator in the Christenson slaying, testified Monday during a pre-trial hearing that Fairchild "appeared visibly shaken" when detectives prepared to question him about Christenson's death.

Green said the Miranda rights were read to Fairchild, then he became shaken.

Fairchild first told detectives he wanted to talk to his attorney, police questioning of Fairchild ended, six minutes later he asked to talk to detectives, then ultimately he decided to speak only to his attorney, Green said.

Fairchild "never made any statements regarding his involvement," Green said.

Previous court records from January, via an affidavit and two search warrant applications from district court, showed Fairchild was trying to steal $500 worth of marijuana during a drug buy when it is alleged he shot Christenson. …
