AMATHS wonder-kid has managed to scoop a GCSE in maths aged just 11.

Sami Akbar was just 10 when he sat his higher maths GCSE paper and managed to bag an impressive B in his first attempt.

The youngster from Ashton was entered for the exam by a private tutor who spotted his potential while coaching him for a grammar school entry exam. Sami's proud mum Safina Shaheen said: "We're very proud of Sami, but we can't say he worked very hard.

"He can actually be quite lazy. He'd much rather play on Minecraft than study. He's on his computer all the time.

"Whenever I ask him about his school work, he always says it's too easy.

"He's definitely gifted and talented, but he doesn't work hard like his sisters. I think now he's got his first GCSE he might try another one. He's very good at English too."

Sami, who has just left Holden Clough Primary in Ashton, said he found the exam papers a doddle. …
