Yankees Get Back in Swing

Article excerpt

ATLANTA - A dormant Yankees lineup suddenly erupted early at Turner Field, taking out a week's worth of frustration against the hapless Braves erratic pitching staff.

"This was a big night for us, just to get some guys going, too," said manager Joe Girardi after the Yankees' 15-4 rout on Friday night.

With a five-run first inning, the Yanks scored one more run than they had during their entire recent three-game series against Houston. And they followed up with a four-run second, another rally that began with two out and nobody on base.

The switch-hitting Teixeira suffered the original injury Aug. 17, lashing a foul ball off the leg. Teixeira was not placed on the disabled list since "we thought it would be three or four days and he would be back," Girardi said.

Jacoby Ellsbury (hip contusion) returned to the lineup and saved two runs with a spectacular, over-the-shoulder catch of Christian Bethancourt's drive, sliding across the center-field warning track. …
