NEW YORK -- Despite the Yankees' offensive struggles in September, manager Joe Girardi doubled down on the idea that Alex Rodriguez won't get a start in tonight's Subway Series finale, the Yanks' last regular season interleague game without a designated hitter.

A-Rod worked out at first base nearly three weeks ago at Boston and "it just didn't look right," Girardi said. "So we decided not to do it. He doesn't look comfortable. As much as we thought maybe it might work, it just didn't work."

Rodriguez flied out as a pinch-hitter in Saturday's ninth inning. He walked as a pinch-hitter in Friday's ninth.
