THREE men have been arrested after an hourlong rooftop stand-off following a police raid on a suspected cannabis farm.

Officers executed a search warrant at a house on Grassfield Avenue in Lower Broughton, Salford, yesterday afternoon.

It followed intelligence received by police that cannabis plants were being cultivated for sale inside.

The M.E.N. understands that three men, aged 21, 24 and 25, scrambled out of a skylight and onto the roof of a nearby house.

Police and firefighters were called to reports of a number of men without shirts standing on the roof at around 3.25pm. Neighbours said two men climbed down a short time later but a third man remained on the roof of the property until around 4.15pm.

The fire service said its aerial appliance was also requested and pictures from the scene taken by shocked neighbours showed firefighters helping one man into the cherry picker.

The police helicopter is also understood to have been circling overhead during the drama. …
