Two People Injured in Topeka Wreck after Driver Fleeing Bicycle Police Runs Red Light

A speeding car that police said ran a red light struck another vehicle early Monday afternoon at S.E. 17th and S. Kansas Ave, sending two people to local hospitals.

The crash, which was reported about 12:15 p.m., occurred when a white, four-door Dodge Sebring collided with a gold, four-door Cadillac DeVille.

At the time of the crash, the Sebring was traveling at a high rate of speed south on S. Kansas Avenue, said police Maj. Darin Scott.

Witnesses told police the Sebring blew through a red light at 17th Street, striking a gold Cadillac DeVille on the driver's side door. The DeVille was headed east on S.E. 17th and was proceeding through the intersection on a green light.

Immediately after the crash, the driver and a passenger got out of the Sebring and fled in different directions. The driver, who sustained superficial head injuries, was captured a short time later after fleeing to the southwest, running behind a business on the west side of S. …
