WINGER Nev Edwards' sparkling pre-season form has been rewarded in the shape of a permanent contract with Sale Sharks.

The former Rosslyn Park, Bedford and London Irish star - who had been on trial at Sale over the summer - has been handed a one-year contract by director of rugby Steve Diamond after impressing in the Sharks' first two outings in the Kings of the North tournament. A close friend of Sale and England fly-half Danny Cipriani, Edwards rejected interest from two other Premiership clubs to sign for the Sharks.

"Nev has spent the summer with us and has worked hard and impressed during our pre-season build-up," said Diamond.

"Due to an injury to Tom Brady and Phil MacKenzie being away at the World Cup with Canada I gave Nev a start at Newcastle in the Kings of the North competition and he scored an outstanding try. …
