Man Pleads Guilty to Role in Major Drug Ring

Cecil Pinnix, one of the main players in a cross-country drug ring centered in Homewood and supplied from California, admitted to his role on Monday in U.S. District Court.

Mr. Pinnix, 46, of East Liberty, pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges related to selling heroin and cocaine as one of the Pittsburgh distributors for a Los Angeles supplier who also supplied dealers in Cleveland.

Mr. Pinnix was among 54 people charged in interrelated indictments in Pittsburgh last year and this spring following a two-year wiretap investigation by an FBI task force focused on violent drug dealers in Homewood and neighboring communities, including Penn Hills and Wilkinsburg.

In announcing one of the sets of charges in March, Pittsburgh Police Chief Cameron McLay and U.S. Attorney David Hickton said the network was largely responsible for driving up violence in Homewood.

The central players were identified as Lionel Cannon of Cleveland, accused of orchestrating drug shipments as the go-between for his Los Angeles supplier, Jason Hunter, and two men in Pittsburgh, Mr. …
