A three-story building that houses Smithfield News and the last of Downtown's adult bookstores has been sold to a private investor for $800,000.

Warner Mariani, a Downtown attorney who bought the property through the entity 624 Properties LLC., closed on the purchase earlier this month. The asking price on the building at the corner of Smithfield Street and Boulevard of the Allies was $895,000.

Mr. Mariani plans to keep the two existing tenants, both of which have long-term leases. Smithfield News has been a tenant for more than 40 years and the adult bookstore for more than 20.

The attorney has represented the various owners of the bookstore in the past. "They've been a very good tenant. They've been there 20 some years. I see no reason to switch that up," he said. …
