Major Scale for New Hall at Music School ; Picture Gives Preview of 500-Seat Concert Space Due to Open at Chetham's Next Spring

tHIS is an artist's impression of what the new Pounds 8m concert hall at Chetham's School of Music will look like.

Work is well under way on the brand new performance space and it has now been officially named the Stoller Hall in recognition of a generous contribution from businessman Norman Stoller and his charitable trust.

The concert hall is due to open its doors in spring 2017 and local supporters of the development gathered recently to hear performances by Chetham's music students. Work on the 400-seat concert hall can now begin thanks to a massive donation from the Oldham businessman and former RAF veteran, through his charity the Stoller Charitable Trust.

Sites at the school range from the 600-year old Baronial Hall to the new state-of-the-art school building which opened in 2012.

Guests also viewed computer generated images of the finished Stoller Hall and visited the site for an official naming ceremony, in which Mr Stoller was invited to break a bottle of champagne against the beams of the future auditorium. …
