Hero to the Homeless Pittsburghers Should Get Behind Dr. Withers' Work

As an internationally known practitioner of "street medicine," Jim Withers has been giving care and compassion to Pittsburgh's homeless for more than 20 years. Now comes an opportunity for Pittsburghers to give back.
Dr. Withers, an internal medicine physician who began caring for the city's street people in 1992, is one of CNN's Top 10 Heroes for 2015. That's an honor in itself, but there's more: The network is giving Americans a chance to choose a "Hero of the Year" in an online poll.
We don't want take anything away from the other heroes - a worthy assembly that includes a woman who helps single moms with cancer and a man who helps combat veterans "walk off the war" on the Appalachian Trail. But hometown pride demands that we suggest that Dr. Withers and his work deserves the top honor and the accompanying $100,000 prize. …
